Possible Periodic Dips in the Pulsating Ultraluminous X-Ray Source M51 ULX-7

چکیده

We report the discovery of possible periodic X-ray dips in a pulsating ultraluminous source, M51 ULX-7, with archival Changra observations. With ~20 days monitoring superorbital descending state, we discovered three separations ~2 and ~8 via Bayesian block technique. A phase-dispersion minimization $\chi^2$ test suggest that dip is likely recurrent period days, consistent orbital ULX-7. interpret as an obscuring emission from pulsar by vertical structure on stream-disk interaction region or atmosphere companion star. Both interpretations viewing angle to be ~60 degrees. Given magnetic field ULX-7 moderately high, $B\sim10^{13}$ G, low geometric beaming $b\lesssim1/2$ sufficient explain observed flux presence dips. Obscuration stellar wind remains alternative origin further will required.

Ultraluminous X-ray Sources in M51

We present the results of Chandra observations of off-nuclear X-ray sources in the spiral galaxy M51 (NGC 5194). 113 X-ray sources have been detected in the field of view and 84 among them project within the disk of NGC 5194. Six and twenty eight sources have luminosities exceeding 1 × 10 39 ergs s −1 and 1 × 10 38 ergs s −1 in the 0.5–8 keV band, respectively. The number of luminous sources is...

The ultraluminous X-ray source NGC 1313 X-2

NGC 1313 X-2 is one of the brightest ultraluminous X-ray sources in the sky, at both X-ray and optical wavelengths; therefore, quite a few studies of available ESO VLT and HST data have appeared in the literature. Here, we present our analysis of VLT/FORS1 and HST/ACS photometric data, confirming the identification of the B ∼ 23 mag blue optical counterpart. We show that the system is part of a...

Hubble Space Telescope Identification of the Optical Counterparts of Ultraluminous X-ray Sources in M51

We present the results of a search for optical identifications of ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULXs) in M51 by using mosaic images taken with the Hubble Space Telescope Advanced Camera for Surveys in filters F435W (B), F555W (V), F814W (I), and F658N (Hα). Our sample consisting of nine ULXs is defined by analyzing the three Chandra observations of M51 performed in 2000 June, 2001 June, and 2003...

Origin of the X-ray Quasi-periodic Oscillations and Identification of a Transient Ultraluminous X-ray Source in M82

The starburst galaxy M82 contains two ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULXs), CXOM82 J095550.2+694047 (=X41.4+60) and CXOM82 J095551.1+694045 (=X42.3+59), which are unresolved by XMM-Newton. We revisited the two XMM-Newton observations of M82 and analyzed the surface brightness profiles using the known Chandra source positions. We show that the quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) detected with XMM-N...

The X - ray spectral evolution of the ultraluminous X - ray source Holmberg IX X - 1

We present a new analysis of X-ray spectra of the archetypal ultraluminous X-ray source (ULX) Holmberg IX X-1 obtained by the Swift, XMM-Newton and NuSTAR observatories. This ULX is a persistent source, with a typical luminosity of ∼10 erg s, that varied by a factor of 4 – 5 over eight years. We find that its spectra tend to evolve from relatively flat or two-component spectra in the medium ene...
